Matthew and Nicholas loved to go to the mountains for holidays. Their parents had a big house in a little village in the middle of the fields, surrounded by green meadows.

They were always playing with their ball in the fields near the house.

One of their neighbours was an old woman who took great care over her flowers and the kids parents had advised them not to play near her garden.

But when the old woman went shopping, Mathew and Nicolas took the opportunity to play in the meadows in front her house which were bigger and greener than any other.

One time Nicolas hit the ball and it broke one of the woman´s pots and the yellow flower that was in it.The kids were arguing about who’s fault it was when a lively and cute dog passed them and they had an idea.

When the old woman arrived home, the kids told them that the dog belonging to her neighbour who lived in the house opposite, Matilde, had broken her pot. This made the old woman unhappy and so Matilde´s mother decided to take the little dog back to the city as a punishment.

Matilde was very sad, because her dog was her best friend and she knew it was innocent.

When Matthew and Nicholas heard about Matilde´s mother’s decision, they went to talk to the old woman and confessed their guilt. Their parents were very proud of their courage and honesty, because it is better to tell the truth than to lie.
