PLAYING IN THE FOREST
Short Story for girls and boys written by: Maribel.
Today the forest is so lively. Rabbits leave their dens to greet the new day, the moles awake timidly from their lethargy, and get ready to start the day.
Small deers have been gamboling for a while over the small bushes, free as the wind that caresses their backs.
Little by little, the forest inhabitants appear: sparrows; hares; squirrels; snails; birds; woodpeckers; badgers…all appear little by little filling the forest with light, music and colours where they are.
But they are not only animals in the forest. There are several little houses in the forest where some people and kids, like Helen and John live.
Helen and John are siblings and the children of Valentino.
Valentino collects resin that the trees produce and that is used to make varnish, adhesive, perfume and incense.
Today is Sunday, Helen and John don´t have to go to school, so they decide to play in the field with the animals who are their friends.
They play, laugh, sing and make a big circle inside of which everybody jumps around and plays. They laugh and laugh so loud that the sun, keeps shining, looking at them from on high, with envy, thinking:
“I would really love to be down on the ground playing and laughing with them, I am so lonely here. They enjoy my light but don´t even know I´m here”.
With these confusing thoughts in his mind, little by little the sun forgot his mission and descended to Earth to play with them. Suddenly, when he had already begun his descent, he heard a voice saying:
“If you go down to Earth, your sun rays will be so bright that you will end up burning the kids, the animals and the whole forest”.
The impact of those words was so strong that he stopped and went slowly back up through the short stretch he had descended. His feelings were a mixture of happiness and sadness; happiness because he finally understood his real mission, and sadness because the consequences would have been terrible if he had listened to his own thoughts.
That is how he realized that it was possible to enjoy the laughter and games of children and animals in the field from his place and also fulfil his mission. In this way, he was happy and made the others happy too.
THE END
Moral for the short story for Kids:
- Your mission is important to the world, no matter how small it seems to be.
- If you don´t do what you have to do, nobody will do it for you.
