SADNESS BECOMES LOVE
Short Story written by: Ana Maria y Camilo (Gomez siblings)
Once upon a time there was a very poor, humble and charitable boy, who was alone. He used to walk around the forest helping the animals that lived there, because he had nobody else. His parents and brothers had died in a house fire. This had happened when he was gathering firewood and fruits of the forest, and when he went back home it was too late, the house had burnt to the ground.
Now the kid walked through the forest everyday, picking fruit and plants to eat, dreaming about having a family and a little house so he could stop living in the cold forest.
One morning, it was very cold, and the kid went to pick some fruit, as he hadn´t eaten anything for several days. He was walking through the forest when suddenly he saw a girl and ran as fast as he could and asked her:
– “What are you doing here alone?”
“I was playing with my little rabbit and he ran off into the woods and I followed until I didn´t know were I was, so I’ve spent the night here”, she said.
The boy was concerned and decided to take her back home. On the way, he told her his tragic story and the girl was very sad to hear about it.
When she got home she told his story to her parents and they then offered shelter to the kid.
Time passed and the kid became a very hard-working boy. The girl admired his work and his personality and little by little fell in love with him.
One quiet afternoon, the young boy took the girl to see the twilight. Lying in that beautiful field, the boy picked a rose, knelt before her and asked her to marry him. She accepted, and that is how they became a very happy family.
And that is the end of the story…
